The Porsche 956/962 It is hard to know whether listing the race victories of the Porsche 956/962 would be a brash proclamation of its success or an understatement about an unparalleled race career. The 956/962 won at its first outing to Le Mans and rubber-stamped this triumph in the following five years. To rub salt into the wounds of its peers it won three Daytona 24 Hours and every other cham-pionship it has entered, at least once! Ford, Lancia, Jaguar, Chevrolet and Mercedes have all buckled under Porsche's challenge, but in 1987, the 956/962 family was itself finding victories a little hard to grasp. The future of this legendary sports car may be difficult to predict. The very high running and maintenance costs eliminate the average compassionate club man hoping to provide an ex show-stealer with an active retirement - this car is only for the wealthy!
