Anotace

The second half of the 1990s was a good period for TVR. The Company's products, the Chimaera, Cerbera, Griffith and the race-bred Tuscan, sold strongly and benefited from attractive and distinctive styling which was in a difference league from the rather brutal efforts of TVR's earlier years. And these cars bore comparison with the best from the bigger manufacturers, too. The features reproduced in this book make the point well. The Company had started as long ago as 1954 in Blackpool as a manufacturer of tubular chassis for the kit-car market. From 1957 it graduated to producing complete kits, and this established the kit-car image which would cling, unjustifiably, to the marque for many years. For the next three decades, and more, other manufacturers’ engines would always be a feature of TVRs, even though the cars themselves remained unique. By the 1980s, after several changes of company ownership, TVRs had changed considerably. No longer could they be considered affordable performance cars, but rather high-cost, high-excitement machines for the lucky few. And the 1990s brought a final break with the kit-car ethos as the company bravely began to manufacture its own engines for the first time. It is these later cars which are celebrated in this book and, as contemporary commentators note, they were as much admired when new as they are treasured by enthusiasts who own older examples.
