Sir Alec Issigonis, the Mini's creator, would have been proud if he had lived to see that the car he created in the late 1950s was still in production in the late 1990s. His other great creation, the Morris Minor, lasted just 23 years in production and had attracted devoted enthusiasts all around the world. So what kind of an afterlife can the Mini expect when it finally ceases production after four decades? The Mini has its fans already, of course, just as it has had from day one back in 1959. It may no longer be unsurpassed in its field, but the most recent updates have brought a thorough rejuvenation at which those who have followed the Mini's progress over the years can only marvel. Initially badged as an Austin or a Morris, the car became a plain Mini during the British Leyland period, and then went on to wear Rover badges when BL changed its name in the middle 1980s. While the Rover name on such a small car may seem rather incongruous, it is undeniable that the Rover name was traditionally associated with durable cars.
