Lancia’s commercial vehicle history is only known to a limited number of the brand’s aficionados. But its 60 years of developing and producing heavy-duty trucks, buses and light utilities is so fascinating that their role within Lancia’s past deserves more than a position in the shadow of innovative passenger cars. In fact, the commercial vehicle activities have added much to the overall strength, reputation and uniqueness of Lancia as a fully-fledged car manufacturer. To draw a broader perspective on Lancia’s commercial vehicle activities Wim Oude Weernink, the famous author of “La Lancia” and so many other publications dedicated to this ground-breaking manufacturer, decided, together with fellow-Lancist Okke Mouissie, to assemble this history in a book. It is not a catalogue but a period-illustrated story-telling journey of how the company, initially with a strong focus of company-founder Vincenzo Lancia himself, made individualistic choices to bring the best it could to the market. And, worth noting, for over three decades in close association with Turin coachbuilder Viberti who contributed so much to the individualistic presence of Lancia trucks and buses among other commercial vehicle manufacturers.
