Including unique contributions from Jacke Stewart and Bob Tyrrell and illustrated with 180 official photographs, this is the definitive concise story of Tyrrell Racing.
This book tells the full story of the Tyrrell Racing team from the perspective of its official photographer. First established in 1958 by Ken Tyrrell with Formula 3 and Formula 2 cars, success came to Tyrrell in Formula 1 when Jackie Stewart and Tyrrell won the World Championship with the Matra MS80 in 1969. The author conveys all the excitement of these heady days in both words and illustrations. The book also describes the transition from other manufacturers’ cars to one developed by Tyrrell itself which opened the 1970s with instant success, winning both the Drivers and Constructors Championship titles in 1971. In 1972 a stomach ulcer blunted Stewart's efforts but in 1973, in his final year of racing, he clinched the driver's championship again despite missing the US GP at Watkins Glen following the tragic loss of team mate and rising star Francois Cevert.
The book also describes the relative decline of Tyrrell as wins were fewer and farther between over the next decade. Its last Grand Prix win was in 1983 and by 1998 Tyrrell had stopped operating under its own name. However, the book shows that its legacy is still seen in the Mercedes-AMG F1 team today.
