Of course, the well-known creators of CURVES still love to swerve and the seventh volume of this tarmac bible presents the most beautiful curves once again, but this time there is plenty of reason to enjoy the speciose Mediterranean Island Sicily outside the cockpit. Sicily has mountains, the ocean and breath taking nature. Already in March, first rays of sunlight warm you, the smell of blossoms is everywhere, street cafés invite to sit down and enjoy a drink – the real early birds let the summer begin just a bit sooner.
The route takes you along the coast of the Thyrrenian Sea up to the mystic race arena Targa Florio. From Madonie pass the Etna, which is still active and also the highest mountain of the island, on rolling streets into the heartland. A must: the visits of the race cities Enna and Syrakus, where you will explore the signs of Greek and Roman culture. Finally, you will reach the Mediterranean, where coastal highways wait, before the Island can be crossed once more direction Palermo.

DEUTSCH: 500 Kilometer in fünf Etappen – klingt nach ambitioniertem Rallye-Roadbook? Ganz im Gegenteil. Nicht die harte Gangart ist im Heimatland sinnlicher Genüsse gefragt, sondern Soulful Driving. Zwar räubern die CURVES-Macher auch im siebten Band der Asphalt-Bibel wieder vergnügt von Kurve zu Kurve, aber es bleibt genügend Zeit, um sich auf der artenreichsten Mittelmeer-Insel auch außerhalb des Cockpits umzusehen. Und das lohnt sich: Sizilien hat von Bergen, Meer und Natur enorm viel zu bieten. Schon im März wärmen Sonnenstrahlen, Blütenduft weht von überall, Straßencafés laden zum Verweilen ein – und die echten Earlybirds lassen den Sommer hier einfach ein bisschen früher beginnen.
Die Route führt uns entlang der Küste des Thyrrenischen Meeres zur mythischen Rennsport-Arena der Targa Florio. Von der Madonie aus geht es vorbei am Ätna, der noch immer aktiv und höchster Berg der Insel ist, über geschwungene Landsträßchen durchs Landesinnere. Abstecher in die Rennsport-Städte Enna und Syrakus sind ein Muss; hier erforschen wir allgegenwärtige Zeugen griechischer und römischer Kultur. Schließlich landen wir am Mittelmeer. Dort lockt wieder Küstenstraßen-Genuss, bevor die Insel noch einmal Richtung Palermo durchquert wird.
